About Us

Sasebo Baptist Church has had a humble beginning that consisted of a handful of families that were reached through the endeavors of a missionary to the United States Military in Japan. On March 1, 1994, Glenn Owens, a US Marine Corps personnel together with his wife Becky and their three children, Jessica, Alyssa, and Jared, arrived in Sasebo to start a Bible preaching church for the American military. 

Their desire to be a lighthouse of Gospel truth led to the church being called Lighthouse Baptist Church.  Many were saved and baptized, the congregation grew until they outgrew their facility which led them to the church facility we have today called Sasebo Baptist Church. The Owens moved back to the US in 1999.  God's work continued under the leadership of five other military missionaries. In December 2023, God called Bro. Owens to be home with the Lord. 

The Sasebo Baptist Church is a thriving testimony that God is still in the business of saving souls and changing lives! Words cannot describe God’s goodness in this place, and all of the glory belongs to Him! The lives changed, the families rescued, and the victories won have all been by God’s amazing grace! To Him be all the glory for His wonderful works at Sasebo Baptist Church!
